Eventful Day — Introduction
Event Planner
Meeting, convention, and event planners coordinate all aspects of professional meetings and events. They choose meeting locations, arrange transportation, and coordinate other details.
Meeting, convention, and event planners spend a lot time in offices, but they also work onsite at hotels or convention centers. Often, they travel to attend events and visit prospective meeting sites.
Employment of meeting, convention, and event planners is projected to grow 33% from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Job opportunities should be best for candidates with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality or tourism management.

Your Mission
Are you a stickler for details? Can you juggle many things at once? When it’s time to plan a party, do you know how to make sure everyone has a good time? If this describes you, then you might have what it takes to be an event planner.
Throughout the year, people and organizations host large-scale events, such as weddings, conferences, business meetings, trade shows, and charity events. A lot of thought and preparation go into planning each event. Event planners work with their clients to produce the best event possible, often at the lowest cost. Their responsibilities include planning menus, decorating venues, hiring entertainment, managing event staff, and working with the demands of their clients to make sure the event runs as smoothly as possible.
In this activity, you will be the event planner. Your client wants to understand how various factors, such as using a disc jockey versus a live band, will affect the cost. Let’s get started…it’s time to plan a big event!
